Secondary Teachers: End of Semester 1 Schoology Course Information

If you are secondary teacher who has new courses starting on January 25, 2016, this short article will help with the transition.

The end of semester 1 is fast approaching. At midnight on Sunday, January 24, 2016, your current Schoology courses will be moved into the archived courses area and disappear from your drop-down Courses menu and for students. If you or your students need to access an archived course after the grading period ends, login to Schoology and click Courses > See All > Archived. Please alert your students about the course archive as that is the only way for them to view detailed semester 1 grade information after January 24.

Teachers can still edit courses, including the gradebook, in the archive. This is important as many will be wrapping up semester grades.

Your semester 2 courses will be available by Wednesday, January 13, 2016. At that time, you will be able to access the courses to add Materials in preparation for semester 2. If you have Materials in your current courses that you would like to move into a semester 2 course or courses, it is a quick process. Click the gear to the right of a folder or activity and choose the Copy to Courses option as shown in the image below:

Don't be concerned if there are no students in your new courses yet. Students will be added to your new courses automatically at the start of semester 2 (Jan. 25).

Though students are automatically added to your courses, they are not automatically removed. Please check the Members section of your courses after most schedule changes have taken place. If there are students there who have left your course, please click the gear icon to the right of their name and unenroll them.

Please contact your site’s technology integration specialist for assistance as needed.
